Ground broken for new IARC building

On December 16, 2011, a groundbreaking ceremony took place for a new building that will part of the Illinois Accelerator Research Center. IARC will provide a state-of-the-art facility for research, development and industrialization of particle accelerator technology. Federal, state and local officials, as well as representatives from partner universities and industries, gathered to mark the start of IARC construction. When complete in 2014, the new building will house 42,000 square feet of technical, office and classroom space in the industrial area of the Fermilab campus. The building will provide offices and technical space for staff members from Fermilab and Argonne National Laboratory as well as university and industrial partners.
